Malawi is the ninth largest body of fresh water in the world and takes up approximately 20% of Malawi's land area. I just learned that it is sometimes called the calendar lake, as it is 365 miles from North to South and 52 miles from East to West. It was a relaxing day, spent reading in the sun, swimming, and bargaining for wood carvings from the vendors on the way home.

How warm is the "Calendar Lake"? And what is Freedom Day for? Are there actually multiple parties in Malawi or are they just permitted? Here in the VI we've got independents and democrats, and maybe one or two republicans.
It's warm (although not as warm as the water in the USVI!). Freedom day celebrates the first multiparty elections in 1994. There are multiple parties, and before the current president was elected in 2004 they tended to be divided regionally (those in the northern region voted for one party, central region voted for another party, and southern region voted for a different party) but Mutharika received votes from all regions of the country.
