I made it only a day and a half behind schedule only to find the entire island of Unguja has been without electricity for 3 weeks now. Pemba (the other big island making up the Zanzibar Archipelegeo) just got power again over the weekend so I am hopeful the more populated of the two islands will get it back soon! However, I found a restaurant with a generator with very cold cokes and free wifi right on this beach so life is pretty good right now.
I'm taking classes in the morning in a kiswahili teacher's house in a nearby neighborhood and spending the afternoons practicing and writing. It's been really good for my mental health to get a short break from Lilongwe!
